The Energy Workforce & Technology Council launched the second year of its ESG Certification Program last week, in partnership with Envision, a leader in corporate advising and coaching.
The year-long program will educate members and cross-industry partners on best practices to manage evolving ESG criteria and reporting requirements. Companies within the oil and gas industry are aware of society’s expectations and the many opportunities and challenges the future holds. The program demonstrates the need for robust reporting and communication and will share practical guidelines on why, how, and what to report. Participants will learn how to develop a reporting strategy and framework.
OPENING SEMINAR
The first seminar included participants from more than 15 companies, including AMGAS, Exterran, Go Wireline, LLC, Gravity Oilfield Solutions, Hunting Energy Services, Milestone Environmental Services, MRC Global, Mustang Cat, NexTier, Oceaneering International, Profrac, Schlumberger, Smart Sand, Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure, Stream-Flo USA and U.S. Well Services.
During the seminar, Boris Leshchinskiy, Accenture, reviewed the ESG Maturity Study, pioneering research conducted in 2020 that established an ESG baseline within the OFS sector. Accenture completed a refresh of the study in advance of the program and Leshchinskiy said that although the majority of OFS companies expect ESG to bring significant value, the maturity of ESG efforts is still low due to barriers to execute and measure ESG initiatives. He stressed the importance of trainings like the ESG Certification Program, which helps increase understanding of ESG focus areas.
DISCUSSION & BREAKOUT GROUPS
During the first session, participants also discussed definitions of sustainable leadership, corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility and ESG. Breakout groups considered topics such as why investors care about ESG, principles of reporting, how to integrate ESG into your business, and why reporting is important.
The seminar closed with a breakout session for coworkers to analyze where their companies stand on ESG and to develop a draft action plan to take back to their companies and executive leadership based on what was learned.

Quarterly best practice sharing sessions will be held throughout the year. These are critical opportunities for participants to learn what approaches have worked in other companies and how they may apply to their organizations.
