90 Years of Energy Workforce: The Element in the Room

As part of the monthly “In Our Element” series honoring Energy Workforce’s 90th Anniversary, we are highlighting the “Element in the Room,” how the men and women of Energy Workforce have impacted political, regulatory and policy issues through advocacy and education efforts.

From its foundation as the American Petroleum Equipment Suppliers Association in 1933, the men and women of the energy service sector have valued their strong relationships with policymakers and utilized this to advance the interests of the industry as a whole. Whether developing a fair practice code for oilfield workers, partnering with regulators to make oil and gas operations safer or highlighting the industry’s extraordinary technological advancements, Energy Workforce Members have been unwavering advocates of the industry.

The pinnacle of Energy Workforce’s advocacy and education efforts is the annual Washington, DC Fly-In. Every year Energy Workforce Members head to Washington, DC for a three-day-long series of events to meet with Federal officials and legislators to discuss policy issues, regulatory impacts and the state of the industry. While the policy issues have changed over the decades, the enthusiasm and dedication from our Members has never wavered. The 2024 Washington, DC Fly-In is scheduled for February 5-7 and is on track to be the largest fly-in to date.

The proactive engagement of Energy Workforce’s members with policymakers has afforded the industry a unique chance to actively shape legislation and regulations. The ongoing commitment to prioritize advocacy and education within the energy services sector is not just important; it is indispensable. It guarantees that the industry maintains a pathway for continued growth and prosperity into the future.
