Energy Workforce President Tim Tarpley participated on a policy panel during the University of North Carolina’s 11th Annual Cleantech Summit where he shared potential impacts to the energy industry from the new administration.
Moderated by UNC Energy Center Associate Director and Former Energy Workforce Board Chair Dan Domeracki, the panel debated how the Trump Administration is set to influence energy policy going forward. Alongside Tarpley, Anna Mosby, S&P and Bob Keefe, E2, outlined how they see the administration handling the Inflation Reduction Act tax credits, technology winners and losers, and broader changes to the industry.
Tarpley discussed the two factions within the House Republican caucus, some looking to maintain the IRA tax credits and the other pushing for a full repeal of the entire IRA package.
So far, both the House and Senate have advanced their individual budget resolutions – which directs committee to craft legislations that yields budgetary results. Over the coming weeks, the GOP majority will decide how many reconciliation bills to pass, which tax credits and regulations to cut and, importantly for the President, how to make the 2017 tax cuts permanent. The Hill will be busy with meetings over the coming weeks as relevant committees decide which programs to repeal.
Various Energy Workforce committees are actively discussing the new administration’s impact on energy technologies. These include the Energy Technology Committee, which is hosting a seminar on April 30, and the Government Affairs Committee which spearheads the association’s outreach in Washington DC.
