Expansion of Road Damage Suit to Service Companies Raises Concerns

Dimmit County, in the Eagle Ford region of Texas, recently amended its suit against Murphy Oil to name numerous oilfield service companies alleging damage to a county-owned road.

The county’s suit argues that the named operating companies, drilling contractors, and oilfield service and equipment providers operated trucks over the 6.9-mile road “in an unreasonable and negligent manner causing substantial, excessive and unnecessary damage” to the road.

Several PESA member companies named in the suit have raised concerns about the potential implications of this lawsuit, particularly establishing a precedent of using litigation against employers and companies engaged in lawful activities.
