National Safety Stand-Down Set for May

PESA encourages safety awareness every day through the efforts of the Health & Safety Committee, where issues relative to occupational health and safety are addressed and best practices and safety improvement processes and programs are developed for use by member companies.

The Department of Labor, OSHA and all government agencies are marking the National Safety Stand-Down May 6-10. OSHA is partnering with key groups, including the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA), OSHA-approved state plans, state consultation programs, and the National Safety Council among others in promoting a safe work environment for all Americans.

The voluntary event is an opportunity for employers to talk directly to employees about safety. Since fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death on worksites, this year’s initiative emphasizes fall hazard awareness. For more information about the event and how the oil and gas industry can increase awareness around fall hazards, visit the OSHA website.
