PESA Partners with Africa-America Institute, Chevron to Host African Diplomatic Program

IMG_20191028_085754-cropOn October 28-29, PESA hosted 16 African diplomats for the inaugural PESA-AAI Africa Diplomatic Orientation & Engagement Program. Representatives from Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa attended.

The program, officially endorsed by the African Diplomatic Corps in Washington, D.C, is designed to equip new and seasoned ambassadors with the tools needed to ensure their success in Washington. During the program, speakers offered their insights on technology and the business life cycle of the industry, from workforce training to market entry strategies.

Over the course of two days, the group heard from industry and subject matter experts at Baker Hughes, Carnegie Mellon University, Chevron, Gaffney, Cline & Associates, Colorado School of Mines, NOV, Rice University’s Baker Institute and Schlumberger.

In addition to various presentations, day one included a tour of the Chevron Drilling Center and a panel discussion around workforce development and higher education.

That afternoon, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner welcomed the diplomats, alongside Clay Neff, President, Chevron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production Company; Mamadou Beye, General Manager Corporate Affairs, Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production Company, Chevron; Kofi-Appenteng, President, Africa-America Institute; and PESA President, Leslie Beyer. The day concluded with a networking reception where the diplomats were able to meet individuals from PESA Member Companies and connect with speakers from earlier in the day.

Day two was hosted by Baker Hughes and Schlumberger. Participants not only heard from industry experts but were able to tour the labs at each facility. The program concluded with a dinner which included African ambassadors, PESA Leadership, Chevron, AAI and the Houston Consular Corps.
