The Energy Workforce’s largest executive training cohorts to date graduated last week in ceremonies highlighting accomplishments and focus areas for the upcoming year.
Based on the Energy Workforce’s mission to advance the industry and those within it, these programs educate, empower and elevate its individual members and Member Companies. The programs include the Executive Leadership, Inclusion & Diversity Business Champion and ESG Certification. Congratulations to all the graduates!
During the ESG Certification Program graduation, keynotes included Dan Romito, Pickering Energy Partners; Brandee Fernandez, Baker Hughes; Gary Childress, Oil States International; Kembre Roberts, Lockton Dunning, and Scott McCurdy, Encino Environmental Services. ESG Committee Chair Marie Caekebeke, Baker Hughes, facilitated the event.
Romito addressed the Anticipated 15 ESG-Related Trends Influencing Strategy, providing his insights on what energy companies will be focusing on in 2023.
“Your disclosures and your reporting should tell the story. But you should also take the time to educate the marketplace on energy. It involves active communication and outreach. Your report should tell the story of where you’re going.”
Dan Romito, Partner, Pickering Energy Partners
Leadership building within the energy industry continues to be an area of expertise for the Energy Workforce. The Executive Leadership Program, the longest running program from Energy Workforce, graduated its eighth cohort with representatives from more than 25 companies.
Emerging Executives Committee Chair Chris Berrie, Caterpillar Oil & Gas, facilitated the Executive Leadership Program graduation, kicking the day off by introducing Energy Workforce Advisory Board Member Kyle Ramachandran, Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure.
Ramachandran shared his 2022 Reflections and Leadership Perspectives, highlighting what he hones in on as a leader.
“What resonates with me when it comes to leadership is slowing down to speed up, being more relational versus transactions and remembering that work should be fun.”
Kyle Ramachandran, President & CFO, Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure
Energy Workforce Board Member Chuck Chauviere, HMH, spoke to the graduates about the importance of vulnerability, the value in continuous learning and why the people around you matter.
“Your world is moving at a very fast pace. If you are not learning and applying new things, you need to start,” he said. “And remember, the people you surround yourself with matter”.
He also discussed the significance of continuously focusing on yourself within your role. “It matters how you are investing in yourself,” he said. “Mentoring and coaching is key.”
The Emerging Leadership graduation day ended with a speed mentoring exercise, a real-time opportunity for leadership to offer instant feedback and guidance to the program graduates. The one-on-one mentoring sessions created an intimate environment to discuss growth, leadership and development.
Lamonica Spivey, TechnipFMC and Chair of the I&D Engagement Committee facilitated the I&D Program graduation as well as presented on Employee Resource Groups. Additional highlights from the I&D Business Champion graduation program included advice from keynote speakers Shanta Eaden, Leader’s Edge Consulting, Victoria Beard, Piper Sandler and Energy Workforce Advisory Board Member Dave Warnick, Anthropont.
Warnick discussed Maximizing Mentor and Sponsor Opportunities, noting that mentors “talk to us and with us,” while sponsors talk “about us.” “It’s important to have internal and external mentors and to be very open to advice,” he said.
With regard to sponsorship opportunities, Warnick said we need to have the conversations, demonstrate the progress while keeping the sponsor updated and aware. “You must find ways to add value to the relationship in conjunction with continuously showing appreciation.”
Warnick wrapped up his presentation by noting when picking a mentor, pick someone who looks and thinks differently than you.
Participants discussed reinforcing inclusion and diversity strategies as integral parts of their company’s business strategy and demonstrating this culture – as opposed to statements without clear actions.
Pat Lipovski, CEO and Founder, Envision Group, and his team joined the cohorts on each day to celebrate the graduates’ achievements.
Graduates throughout the programs expressed strong desires to champion their gained knowledge within their companies and create learning opportunities for others. Equipping current and future leaders with tools in leadership, inclusion and diversity and ESG evolves the energy industry and enhances its position as a driver of the global economy.
“Not only has this program motivated me to implement the tools I now have at my disposal, but it has inspired me to become more involved in the Energy Workforce & Technology Council moving forward”.

Enrollment in the 2023 program cohorts is open, and the Energy Workforce encourages its Member Companies to engage their workforce with these programs. Early bird pricing ends January 31. The designation is designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance, and build knowledge essential to the oil and gas industry.
