ESG Certification Session Delves Into Stakeholder Engagement

stakeholder

Energy Workforce held the third session of the ESG Certification Program last week in partnership with Pickering Energy Partners, the Envision Group and support from ClimeCo.

The session was comprised of participants from more than 20 companies, including Berkley Oil & Gas, BJ Energy Solutions, Brigade Energy Services, CDI Energy Products, Detmar Logistics, Encino Environmental Services, Evers & Sons, First Horizon, GIS, HMH, Hunting Energy Services, Key Energy Services, Milestone Environmental Services, MRC Global, NOV, Oil States International, Ranger Energy, Savage Brands, Shawcor, Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure, SPM Oil & Gas, A Caterpillar Company, U.S. Well Services and Vallourec.

Opening the seminar, Kaitlyn Allen, Vice President, ESG, ClimeCo, discussed stakeholder engagement for ESG reporting and shared reflections of the field. Allen reviewed key questions that companies should be asking themselves as they embark in stakeholder engagement, as well as lessons learned and potential traps to avoid during this process. The presentation can be downloaded here.

Much of the session was also dedicated to discussion on conducting a materiality assessment. Both elements are critical in building the foundation for an ESG program in any company and at any level.

Facilitators reminded participants that “it is important to get one’s entire community on board and moving in the right direction and in agreement with your strategy to solve complex business problems” and having a clear stakeholder map helps do so. This also relates to one of the first concepts discussed in depth with participants at the beginning of the program, which is that of a clear mission and purpose to drive ESG efforts.

Envision Group CEO Pat Lipovski noted that a “clear vision eliminates the risk and possibility of a message not being interpreted correctly.”

Registration for the 2023 cohort is now open. Contact COO Molly Determan for more information on how to get your company involved in Energy Workforce & Technology Council, and Director of Government Affairs Maria Suarez for ESG program information.
